Tamil Film Koozhangal to represent India in international feature film category at Oscars
Much to the joy and pride of the locals, it is known that Tamil director PS Vinothraj’s debut film, Koozhangal, will be the Indian representative at the 94th Academy Awards. The film will compete in the International Feature Film category at the Oscars to be held on March 27, 2022 in Los Angeles. The news was announced by Shaji N Karun, the chairman of the selection committee. FFI General Secretary Supran Sen said the decision was unanimous.

Previously, the film won the director the prestigious Tiger Awar at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. The plot of the film revolves around an actual incident that happened in Vinothraj’s family.
Meanwhile, 14 films have been shortlisted this year, including Vidya Balan’s Sherni and Shoojit Sircar’s Sardar Udham with Vicky Kaushal. Many regional films were also included in the list, such as the Tamil film Mandela, starring Yogi Babu, and Martin Prakkat’s Malayalam film, Nayattu.
A 15-member jury watched these 14 films for a few days at the Bijoli Cinema in Bhowanipore, Kolkata.
The 94th Academy Awards will be held in March 2022 in Los Angeles, California. Last year, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s critically acclaimed Malayalam film Jalikattu was India’s official entry to the Oscars, although it failed to make the list of best international feature films. . Karishma Dev Dube’s short Bittu, meanwhile, was nominated for Best Live-Action Short at the Oscars.
