Knocked Loose Surprise releases new EP + animated short
Knocked Loose Gives Fans A Bump Day Surprise, Serving Up Brand New EP Titled A tear in the fabric of life which is also based on a brand new animated short that helps tie the story together.
The EP features six dynamic new songs, with a short film of just over 21 minutes. In those 21 minutes, you get a fully fleshed out narrative written by singer Bryan Garris who is aided by visuals from Swedish director Magnus Jonsson.
Garris reveals, “It’s a story of extreme grief and the levels that a person is willing to go through to get rid of it. The story follows a main character through a traumatic car crash late one night in the woods that leaves his partner dead, and from there you plunge with him into the depression and guilt that comes with being the one. because of something so damaging. “
He continues: âThis is the first time that we have really taken the plunge and tried to create something sonic that evokes a different range of emotions and above all something that introduces tension and anxiety with huge payoff. The story is told not only through words, but through music as well, which turned out to be our biggest challenge in writing. Lyrically, this story ended up being a lot more personal. than we originally planned. We started with the idea of ââtelling a fictional story, but throughout the process I found ways to incorporate real feelings of loss and grief, as well as anger. and self-doubt. I’ve always been a very personal writer and it was originally a step away from that, towards something more artistic. But in the end, it was just as therapeutic as writing a regular Knocked Loose record, and I think you will be able to end.
Director and host Magnus Jonsson adds, âI always want to create something that complements the music, works within its structures, and hopefully enriches the audience experience. With a longer format around 21 minutes, covering 6 tracks, I knew this dark ghost story was a very interesting challenge to explore in animation. I took the story presented in the songs and anchored it in a visual world. I wanted to create an intense nightmare, focusing on the emotional states of Bryan’s main character. I’ve created visuals that take audiences deeper into this story of a spiraling descent into horror and destructive madness – taking a minimalist and sometimes even abstract approach to many parts of imagery, creating uneasiness and a strange atmosphere.
After a busy touring schedule in recent years, Knocked Loose took advantage of its pandemic downtime to hide in its hometown of Louisville before heading to a cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to start writing. a concept album. By September of last year, they had finished writing what would become A tear in the fabric of life.
The EP is currently available through Pure Noise Records through all digital retailers and vinyl formats will be available on December 17th at this location. Look for the group who are now going on tour to support Gojira at these stops.
